May/June RCA Newsletter Article

the May/June issue of the RCA newsletter featured an article on Rowing PEI’s use of the Rec Fleet. See below:

RCA’s Rec Fleet Program

Announced in April: Fort Langley RC, Saskatchewan Rowing Association (2014),  Hatchets Training Centre, ON, and Nova Scotia Rowing Association (Bridgetown Rowing Club) are recipients of RCA’s Recreational Centre Equipment program.

Last year, participation in the program allowed Rowing PEI to establish a club (show here). Three years ago, there was no infrastructure on PEI for the sport of rowing. These boats have allowed the club to grow from two to 45. “There is nothing like an open water row in the recreational quad and get greeted by a seal who follows you on your morning row,” said Stephen Murray of Rowing PEI.

Learn to Row has Begun!

The first Learn to Row of 2013 took place last weekend as 10 of our 12 new LTRs took to the pool at the CARI to test out the coastal double for a tethered row! After doing the dryland/safety training and learning how to use the ergs properly, we put them one by one in the double in the pool. According to the LTR instructors, they all did wonderfully and we have some natural rowers new to our club this year. Looking forward to getting on the water with them to see how they do!
