Rowing Canada Aviron Safety Video – Now available for immediate viewing online!

Many accidents occur as the result of uninformed or ill-considered decisions being made before leaving the boathouse. Weather and water conditions, time of day, the equipment and appropriate supervision, are all critical components that must be assessed in order to ensure that it is a safe rowing situation.

Safety starts before you go on the water . . . and safety is everyone’s business.

The RCA Safety Video has been produced to promote and demonstrate safe practises for Rowers. The first four Chapters cover:
• At the Boathouse
• Getting Ready
• On the Water
• Returning to Land

PEI Youth Medal at Sherbrooke Test Regatta

With a field of over 65 athletes, the 2013 Sherbrooke Canada Games Test Regatta was held on Saturday June 8th in Lac Magog, Quebec.

The PEI Canada Games training Team brought home 2 medals from this event. The women’s Quad won a silver medal. Making this a more impressive win was the fact that Brooke Currie, who currently trains with the McGill Varsity Rowing team, joined her other 3 teammates on the dock for the first time for the race. Other rowers in this event included Lauren Murray, Aleya Quilty and Jaime MacKinnon. Murray trains with the St. FX Varsity Rowing Team in Antigonish, NS.

The Men’s Quad resulted in a Bronze medal and team members are Nathan Gibson, Sam Mallett, Travis Cheverie and Jordan Rose. Gibson and Colby Currie, who is currently training with the Queen’s University Varsity Rowing Team, competed in the men’s double for the first time together and Currie also had a personal best in the men’s single. Coach Mike Gibson was pleased with the team’s results in this pre-games competition. Also travelling to the regatta was Team Manager Ruth Quilty.

The team is preparing for the Nova Scotia Sprints July 20 & 21, 2013 in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, which will be the qualifying regatta for the 2013 Summer Canada Games in Sherbrooke. To June 2013, House Rowing 402 Sherbrooke Women's Quad
