July 2014 newsletter
Thank you to everyone who attended our barbeque and Learn to Row graduation. We had fantastic weather, good company and TONS of food. Wow…what a feast!
It was great to gather everyone together to celebrate.
Thanks to the many volunteers who helped to make this Learn to Row session such a success. It was our most ambitious LTR group to date, with 25 participants.
A special “shout out” to Mary Lynne Bruvels and her team who took on organizing our biggest LTR group ever.
We are very excited to have a new “lively” group of rowers joining us this summer.
RED, WHITE AND ROW!!
We had a great turnout for our first ever Red, White and Row event on Canada Day! The rowers were decked out in red and white…with lots of flags. Thanks to the safeties and L2s who came out to make this event possible. Next year, we hope to add pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream!
|Coming Up….Saturday July 26th 8:30-9:00 a.m. (in the hall – CYC or on the grass in front of CYC)
Certified Yoga Instructor/ Rowing PEI Board Member Nancy Russell will lead a ½ hour yoga class at the CYC – please bring a yoga mat or towel – no experience necessary!
To be followed by bagels, cream cheese and fruit
If you are signed up for the 9:00 row, the food will be available after the row!
*Stay tuned for our August “Fun Regatta”!
We have purchased buoy markers and timers and plans are in the works for Rowing PEI’s first “fun regatta”.
It will be a great event for every level of rower. We hope as many members as possible will take part! More details to come soon.
Post Tropical Storm Arthur
Thanks to the team of volunteers who tied down and kept an eye on our boats all weekend as Post Tropical Storm Arthur approached…and hit…the Charlottetown Yacht Club. This has re-affirmed the club’s commitment to purchasing a trailer for our boats so that we are able to move them when weather conditions warrant.
There are a number of technical coaches and “coaches in training” involved with the club this season including Canada Games coach Mike Gibson, Stephen Murray, Nathan Gibson and Travis Cheverie. If you are interested in trying a seat in one of the racing boats or would like a training program, please drop us an email at: email@example.com
This is available to all ages and every level or rowing experience!
