Emily is coming off a sixth place finish at the Worlds in Holland.

Here is a write-up from The Journal Pioneer about the race:

It was not the result the Canadian women’s quadruple sculls team was looking for.

Emily Cameron and her Canadian teammates finished sixth in the final at the world rowing championships in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, on Saturday.

Racing in the last race of the day, Cameron, Kate Goodfellow of Perth, Ont.; Carling Zeeman of Cambridge, Ont., and Antje von Seydlitz-Kurzback of Smithers, B.C., were coming off a strong and composed third-place finish in Friday’s semifinal, and were looking to improve on last year’s silver-medal performance.

However, being relegated to Lane 6 as a result of their third-place finish in the semifinal, the girls were somewhat removed from the action that was occurring on the opposite side of the course in Lanes 1 through 3.

“I think we learned a lot here, about how the week progresses,” said Seydlitz-Kurzback, who sets the rhythm in the boat, in a Rowing Canada media release.  “It’s really important to place well in each round because that determines lane draw in the subsequent race, which determines the favoured lanes.”

Germany, who won their semifinal, was moved to the favoured and protected Lane 1, on the opposite side of the course from the Canadians and went on to win gold. China took the silver and the United States finished third.

Cameron, a graduate of Three Oaks Senior High School in Summerside, is the 31-year-old daughter of Scott and Susan Cameron of Wilmot Valley. Cameron trains full time with the Canadian national team.
