Masters Competitive Program
*new for 2016
Rowing P.E.I. is offering a Masters Competitive program for 2016.
There will be weekly training plans, as well as two coached sessions.
(Thursday 7 :00 p.m. and Saturday 8 :30 a.m.)
Additional training times will be up to rowers to book as part of the regular weekly schedule.
There may be more coaching sessions based on demand.
Program begins Thursday June 16th
Rowers have the option of participating in up to 3 regattas in 2016 :
Nova Scotia Sprints – Saturday July 23rd and Sunday July 24th – Dartmouth
Red Island Regatta – Saturday August 27th – Brudenell, P.E.I.
Four Bridges (head race) – Saturday September 24th – Fredericton
Rowers are also welcome to train with the Masters Competitive program even if they are not interested in going to regattas.
Rowers must be at the L2 level to join the Masters Competitive program. New rowers can take part in an accelerated program to become an L2 if they are interested in joining the Masters Comp team.
There will be additional expenses associated with travelling to and participating in the regattas.
There may also be a small surcharge for participating in the Masters Comp program to cover the cost of training.
Rowers will learn :
- Rules of racing
- How to train i.e. fitness for competition
- Drills to improve rowing skills
- Racing strategy
- Learn to be part of a crew
- Opportunity to row all of the boats in our fleet
- Learn how to cox
- Warm-up, cool down and dryland training
Our focus is on sculling but there may be the opportunity to try a sweep boat at a regatta.
Rowing P.E.I. is excited to have 6 Technical Coaches (trained) this season who will be involved in the Masters Comp program.
