Exciting news! P.E.I. is hosting a regatta – and – it’s going to be unique

Rowing P.E.I. is excited to announce our first ever Red Island Regatta – P.E.I. Rowing Championship for Saturday August 27, 2016.

What’s even more exciting is that we are going to offer a hybrid regatta – flat water racing in the morning with a coastal competition in the afternoon.  You can compete in one or both events.

The inaugural Red Island Regatta – P.E.I. Rowing Championship will also highlight a very beautiful venue in eastern Prince Edward Island. The course will be set along the picturesque Brudenell River, with our regatta headquarters at the Rodd Brudenell River Resort.

We have reserved a block of rooms so that people can spend the weekend right here at a resort on the river socializing, rowing and enjoying the beautiful resort and surrounding areas at the end of the summer. This is a really unique venue. Once people arrive, all races, accommodations, dining, golfing, swimming, spa, horseback riding, canoeing is all right here. No need to get in a car and go anywhere. Everyone can just hang out together for the weekend.

Rowers are welcome to compete just in the flat water division, just in the coastal division or both.  We are working with Chief Umpire Linda Lee from Nova Scotia on the details of the event.

We will wrap up the day with a Barbeque* and Awards Ceremony at the Brudenell Resort.

*Barbeque will be put on by families of Canada Games training team as a fundraiser.

We are also considering a special Touring Day on Sunday to top off your rowing weekend.  We will take our coastal fleet on a 15 kilometre trip to Panmure Island Beach for a picnic lunch, then a return row.  If you would like to be part of this special adventure, let us know so we can determine the level of interest.

The Red Island Regatta – P.E.I. Rowing Championship is a new event so we welcome feedback and questions.  We hope we will have a great turnout as we finally get the opportunity to showcase our amazing rowing venues and fleet of boats.

We would like an expression of interest ASAP so we can judge how many boats and divisions we will need to make this very exciting format work.

We look forward to seeing you on the water in August!
