Rowing PEI is excited to announce the 2018 Red Island Regatta and Coastal Rowing Tour and we’re hoping rowers from across North America will join us.
The event was held for the first time in 2016 to great response from more than 60 rowers who took part in the inaugural competition.
We are pleased to offer you a unique rowing experience – with both sprints and coastal racing–as well as the opportunity to experience the wonderful hospitality of Prince Edward Islanders.
The information and safety meeting will be held at on the evening of Friday August 24th, 2018 at the Brudenell Campground multi-purpose building.
The main event will be Saturday August 25, 2018, with sprints on a 1,000 metre course in the morning. In the afternoon, we will switch locations and launch from the beach for 2k and 4k head races in our fleet of coastal boats, including the chance to row a single, double or coxed quad.
Your regatta fee will include a pancake breakfast and catered lunch. After the racing is over, we will be offering a “Taste of PEI” barbeque for a small fee, featuring Island mussels, corn and sausages.
On Sunday August 26,2018, we switch formats again to offer a day of coastal touring, weather permitting. This event will wrap up around 3:30 p.m., leaving you ample time to travel home.
Rooms at the Rodd Brudenell Resort are limited so you may want to get in touch with the resort ASAP if you are interested in staying on site.
Here is the link for other accommodations in the area, including the campground that is adjacent to the race course.
We are preparing the regatta package now and hope to have it available in March 2018. We will then have more details on seat fees and other logistics.
We hope you will pencil us in our rowing calendar in 2018.
Many thanks – and hope to see you in August!
