Adult Learn to Row 2020

Hi Learn to Row group of 2020 – We are excited that we have the thumbs up to begin our Learn to Row program as of Monday July 20, 2020. Thank you for your patience.

We still have some restrictions because of the COVID-19 safety protocols for rowing. That means you will start your Learn to Row program in a coastal double, but by yourself. Our coastal doubles are very stable and we have found an innovative way to use them for training.

Then you have the choice of continuing in the double as a single, or pairing up WITH ONE DEDICATED PARTNER for the rest of the season. So if you have a friend or family member who is interested, this would be a good time to get them involved!  But continuing in the double as a single is also a great option.

Our head coach, Chantelle Hanley, has arrived from New Brunswick and will be leading the program in July and August, with the help of our PEI coaches: Jordanne Buote, Nancy Russell, Sparrow McGowan, Cassidy Doucette and Corinne Giasson-Jean, along with summer student Sohrab Saegh.

Here is what the program is going to look like:

After 4 sessions, you become L1 rowers (Level 1) and move into L2 training. The coaches will take you through a checklist of skills to take you to the L2 level.

Once you are an L2, you will be able to navigate a boat on your own and can move to a coastal single, or continue in a double.

*All rowers who want to go in doubles must select one dedicated partner for the rest of the season, because of COVID-19 protocols determined by the CPHO and Rowing Canada. If you don’t have a dedicated partner, we can help you find one – or you can continue in a single.

L2 training times will be available during the day and on weekends.

This is what our schedule currently looks like. We will be adding row times as needed:

$150 Learn to Row – dryland and safety training and  two times on the water

$110 L2 Training – 5 on water sessions *we have added one bonus row for L2 training

If you wish to continue for the rest of the season, it’s just another $40.

Total: $300  (As compared to the 2020 individual membership of $350)

We know this is a lot of information so please send us your questions!

We are excited to see you soon – and even more excited to have you joining us on the water!

Rowing is a great outdoor sport with fantastic scenery.  And it is considered one of the best workouts around!

“When we said full-body we weren’t kidding. There’s just no comparison to cardio exercise that only involves the lower body, such as biking, the elliptical machine, or running on a treadmill. This is a calorie-killing, efficient workout.”

If you are goal-oriented, there is also the opportunity for all ages to compete. We will have coached sessions to prepare crews for the Nova Scotia Sprints in mid-July 2020.

We will also host the Red Island Regatta at Brudenell, P.E.I. on Saturday August 22 and August 23, 2020.

Our coastal boats are made especially for the wind and wave conditions on the Harbour.

We row out of the Charlottetown Yacht Club from May to October. We typically put our boats in the water on the Victoria Day weekend and can row until after Thanksgiving, weather permitting.
