Indoor Rowing Day in Canada 2023!

2023 Info Sheet – Indoor Rowing Day in Canada – Coast to Coast 2023

Save the Date: February 26, 2022

Coast to Coast – Indoor Rowing Day in Canada is back for 2022!

Please join us Saturday February 26, 2022 from 9 am to noon in your time zone. Collect kilometres on the indoor rowing machine, submit them to us and help us travel from Coast to Coast  —  or C2C!!

In 2020, hundreds of rowers across Canada took part in our first ever national event, helping us to travel across the country, more than 5,514 kilometres. We missed 2021 because of the pandemic, but are back this year.

Our goal is to create a wave of indoor rowing featuring your photos and videos on social media as we move through the time zones across Canada.

The event will begin at 9:00 am in Newfoundland and Labrador, then spread west from there.

If public health rules allow, you are encouraged to invite your members or the general public to hop on a rowing machine and be part of this national event on Saturday February 26th.

If we are unable to gather, we will hold the event VIRTUALLY, from coast to coast to coast!

In person or virtually, this is an exciting opportunity to connect with the rowing community in your area and increase the profile of indoor and outdoor rowing. There are a few ways to encourage participation of this event:

  1. Team challenge within your club
  2. Challenge another club
  3. Relay style
  4. Come and Try! A new way to introduce the sport to the community

The more, the merrier!

This event is organized by the Provincial Advisory Council (PAC) of Rowing Canada Aviron, which consists of representatives from all provincial rowing associations.

*******Let us know you will be taking part!! This is also where you will send your kilometres on Indoor Rowing Day in Canada:canadianindoorrowing@gmail.com

Red Island Indoor Rowing Challenge includes intense relay competition

Thirty competitors gave it their all at the 2nd annual Red Island Indoor Rowing Challenge on Saturday February 23rd at the Ride and Row studio in Charlottetown.

This year’s challenge attracted members of Rowing PEI, Ride and Row and CrossFit competitors from the area, as well as some Islanders eager to give indoor rowing competition a try.

The event featured races of 500 metres, 1,000 metres and 2,000 metres as well as a 4 by 500 metre relay, which provided lots of excitement as team members made the transition on and off the rowing machine.

The Concept 2 rowing machines at Ride and Row were connected together and the race was projected on a big screen so racers could see their “boats” moving along the course.

The winners were:

500 metres

Fastest female rower  – Mary MacLean

Fastest male rower – Mark Wakelin

1,000 metres

Fastest female rower  – Mary MacLean

Fastest male rower – Allan MacKinnon

2,000 metres

Fastest female rower  – Heather Pringle

Fastest male rower – Roy Vandermaar

Fastest men’s relay team  – B’Rows Makin’ Waves – Allan MacKinnon,

Fastest women’s relay team –  Rowing Pains – Sarah O’Connell, Erin Williams, Mary Trainor, Ellen Christie

Fastest mixed relay team – Low Speed, High Drag – Jill Edwards, Laura Younker

The mixed relay was particularly exciting as the teams sprinted to what looked like a photo finish, with identical split times. Low Speed, High Drag finished in 7:08.5 while competitors on the Ride and…Throw Up finished at 7:08.6.

Live videos and photos from the event are available on the Rowing PEI Facebook page.

Rowing PEI wants to thank Kelley MacQueen at Ride and Row, the P.E.I. Department of Health and Wellness and Rowing Canada Aviron for their support of the Red Island Indoor Rowing Challenge.
