Summer Program Coordinator – Rowing PEI 

Overview:

The Summer Program Coordinator for Rowing PEI plays a pivotal role in the organization, overseeing the planning, execution, and evaluation of various programs aimed at promoting the sport of rowing, including Crew 24 (newcomer juniors), Women on Water (WOW) and Newcomers on Water (NOW) programs. This position requires a dynamic individual with strong organizational skills, a passion for rowing, and the ability to coordinate effectively with athletes, coaches, volunteers, and other stakeholders. A connection with the newcomer community on Prince Edward Island would also be beneficial. 

This position is critical for supporting this important programming for Rowing PEI. Our funders want to see that these programs can be successful and sustainable. 

Responsibilities:

Program Planning and Development:

  • Collaborate with the board of directors, coaches, and other stakeholders to develop and implement program goals and objectives for Crew 24, Women on Water (WOW) and Newcomers on Water (NOW) programs. 
  • Design comprehensive program plans, including recruiting participants, schedules, special events, and competitions.
  • Act as the point person in communicating with the funding agencies, including Rowing Canada Aviron and the PEI Alliance for Mental Well-Being
  • Ensure targets are met for each of the summer programs and that reporting is completed as required by the funding bodies in a timely way

Membership Management:

  • Manage membership databases, registrations, and renewals for the summer programs
  • Communicate regularly with program participants regarding program updates, events, and opportunities.
  • Track the number of participants and the funding attached to each of the programs to ensure the membership targets have been met 

Communication and Outreach:

  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote rowing programs and attract new participants.
  • Maintain active communication channels, including social media, website updates, and newsletters, to engage with members and the broader rowing community.
  • Feature the stories of the participants in each of the summer programs
  • Provide the funding agencies with any media materials that they require 

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate records of program activities, participant attendance, and financial transactions.
  • Prepare program reports for the board of directors and funding agencies as required.
  • Assist with grant writing and fundraising efforts to support program sustainability and growth.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Kinesiology, Sport Administration, Sport Management, Health & Human Performance, Physical Education, Recreation Management or equivalent work experience in the field of coaching or administrating sport at the provincial or national level. Bachelor’s degree in sports management, recreation, or a related field (preferred).
  • Trained as an RCA Learn to Row Coach
  • Proven experience in program coordination, preferably in a sports or recreational setting.
  • A connection to the newcomer community on Prince Edward Island would be a strong advantage 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Fluent in Spanish
  • Knowledge of rowing techniques, equipment, and competition rules 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database management software.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, during peak rowing seasons.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to transportation for travel to events and meetings.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • May be subject to a criminal record check and/or other background checks.
